Chapter Overview
The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) is an international, non-profit, and non-partisan association for Information Technology professionals in Government, Industry, and Academia. Our roots date back to the U.S. Signal Veterans of the American Civil War, and AFCEA itself was founded in 1946 with the consolidation of several similar associations after World War II. Today AFCEA boasts over 130 chapters around the globe, and serves over 30,000 members and 1,200 corporate sponsors worldwide.
The Orlando-Central Florida Chapter serves the IT, communications, and simulation professionals of Central Florida. We provide regular luncheons where members of industry, government, and academia can meet, build relationships, and share ideas. We also support local education through College Scholarships, Orange and Seminole County Science Fair Awards, and the Florida Science Olympiad.
SIGNAL magazine, our professional journal, serves 29,000 readers each month, and is the premier journal in its field. TechNet International, one of our several conferences and expositions each year, is the largest forum of this type in the United States.
AFCEA is widely recognized for its high ethical standards and its relevant contribution to the Information Technology sector - the preeminent forum for the exchange of ideas and information among IT professionals. Many of our members are current or former members of the Armed Forces of their countries, and others are IT professionals in defense-related industry and academia positions. (Remember that FM radio, modern air traffic control, GPS, and the Internet all sprang from defense-related IT challenges.) But our members also include those with no military background who are interested in the work that we do for our community and our nation. What about you? Give us a call!
